Random Pictures of Recent Scenes

Picture
This space will be used to post current pictures of  garden scenes, plants, birds and other items of interest throughout the coming season. It is noteworthy that the pictorial content of this page has changed almost 100% since Spring has broken. So much has changed since winter has faded into history that it seems impossible to keep up with everything occurring out here in the countryside. It is my opinion that pictures when used properly can convey more information that a thousand words in some cases. It is hoped the readers' responses will agree. Photos cover everything from plants, animals and birds to garden scenes and food preparation. Pictures will enlarge when clicked. Comments and questions are welcome: Please use the submit box below. The Bottom Line.....

Picture
My attempts here are to build a personal web site that is useful, true to life, appealing and constructive. I am well aware the subject matter and lifestyle presented here are just not graphic enough, or are far out of date to a broad range of readers whose interests are more in tune with high-tech, fast paced and modern life trends. I am even more aware that many of my thoughts and positions are not (and can never be) "politically correct" in the eyes of many! However, I am well aware of those who want and need, a little more simplicity, peace, quiet and a lot less stress in their lives. This includes those  who would like to see a return to a little more courtesy, compassion and common sense in our daily activities.

Did I fail to mention civility? A sense of taking personal responsibility is shamefully lacking in today's 'rat race' and simple courtesies are sadly unknown! Morality and honesty have been degraded to overflowing sewer levels! I've seen hogs and other farm animals behaving better than some humans in public! One can only imagine what goes on in their private lives! Nothing is left to the imagination. These are my feelings and opinions; and they lay the ground work for this web site. And yes, I know this "old fashioned" thinking will not set well with a vast number of some: And that suits me just fine because I don't need political ratings in this insane world. With these thoughts in mind my hopes are to inspire a little gardening or landscape creativity, as well as promote some outdoor interests and physical activity. I find these things can result in a sense of accomplishment, personal satisfaction and an enormous release of stress and tension. Did I fail to mention heart health? There's no prescription that can accomplish as much; and for me it's better than any pill from a bottle! We all must walk upon this earth for a very short period of time, then we are gone. To me this time is precious indeed; and this web site allows me to pass along my points of view and love of God's creations. It is most likely the only means ever of making a statement of my core values, except actually living these values daily and treating others with kindness, respect and dignity!

Some Thoughts About Country Life

Picture
May 8, 2013: Another Gift Of Spring Is Bleeding Heart.
When people like me get involved in gardening it usually begins at a very early age, and continues throughout a lifetime of growing everything from trees and vegetables to annuals and perennials. There's no lack of interest or enthusiasm. Jobs, careers, health problems and raising families can sometimes put everything on the "back burner" for extended periods. There are times when we might get discouraged, upset, and disillusioned, but the interest and enjoyment are always present. It began this way for me with irises way back when I was in high school, and working summers at a large iris/peony nursery. These were back in the days of hand hoeing, weeding and digging. I wanted to hate the job, but my minimum wage pay check kept me going during those blistering hot days (with blistered hands). The work was hard and led me to believe that I would never want to see an iris or peony again for the rest of my life! It would be years later after a military stay, marriage and kids that things began to settle down when we bought our first country property with nothing but briers, scrub brush, rocks and trees. This would become (and still is) the "dream home" in the country that we had always hoped and planned for. It was an exciting time for a young family with three kids to embark on building a home in the country with dogs, cats, ponies and chickens! This was back in the late 70's when the world seemed so much more innocent than it does now. Those were the days when we cleared ground, built a house, garage, landscaped and tilled gardens and perennial beds. Those were the "good ole days" when we began to plant irises, peonies and perennials along with the green beans, potatoes, squash and sweet corn. Now I realize this might not belong here between the intro to the web site and the bottom line article, but it does give me a spot on the internet to rehash some of my thoughts from the "good ole days"!

All questions & comments will be answered if name & e-mail are given. Thanks.

If you have found your way to this point then most likely you share some of the points of view and lifestyle illustrated in this web site. With visitors from all walks of life coming to this site there must be a common thread binding them into the wide fabric of life which includes plants, animals and nature in general. If so inclined then may I suggest visiting HOME II in this site for further reading and visual illustration. As always your comments and questions are welcome.
